Standards require personnel qualification in bonding
When adhesive bonding is used, many errors are often made, leading to significant quality degradation. The entire bonding system (material selection, cleanliness, adhesive, surface treatment, and much more) must be considered during bonding. However, employees often only see the adhesive—and thus are often unable to properly assess other sources of error.
Bonding courses ensure quality and meet the requirements of quality assurance standards
Fraunhofer IFAM offers various courses on adhesive bonding, thus supporting companies in quality assurance. This will become even more important in the future. Following DIN 6701-2 (now superseded by EN 17460) for rail vehicle construction, DIN 2304-1 (now superseded by DIN EN ISO 21368) for safe adhesive bonding for all other areas will be published at the end of 2015. Fraunhofer IFAM estimates that this standard will also be required in many industries. Therefore, it is important to prepare for this now through early personnel training.
