Static mixer tips and static mixer connections
Example: medmix Mixpac
A static mixer has the function of homogenously mixing materials. Depending on the application and material, different static mixers are available. In our product overview, you will find all static mixers clearly presented.
The mixer diameter as an influencing factor for the discharge quantity
Many static mixers are available with the same connection system in different diameters with the same number of mixing elements, e.g., 5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, and 13 mm.
Depending on the application and need, you can optimize your process this way. If you need fine regulation, then reduce the mixer diameter; if you need maximum output to increase processing speed, then increase the mixer diameter.
To demonstrate the potentials to you and how they can influence the manufacturing process, we tested the impact of the length and diameter of the static mixer on the discharge quantity.
For this, we used the same basic static mixer model with 18 mixing elements.
Depending on the application and need, you can optimize your process this way. If you need fine regulation, then reduce the mixer diameter. If you need maximum output to increase processing speed, then increase the mixer diameter.
Note: A change in the static mixer must be followed by a validation of the adhesive process. It must be ensured that the technological values of the adhesive do not deteriorate. Therefore, it is worth knowing from the beginning that there are these options for different mixer diameters.
Here you will find all the static mixers known to us depicted or listed. You can also obtain all of these mixers from us (usually from stock) or from the manufacturer (often only in bulk) below 1 VE.
Depending on the inner diameter, the back pressure for the adhesive discharge changes, and thus the discharge amount per unit of time.
Of course, the result varies from adhesive to adhesive, but a similar behavior will always be observed.
Material: 2K PU – LORD 7545A/B black
Cartridge: 400 ml 1:1 mixing ratio
Cartridge press: 2.2 kN pressure force – COX™ VBA MR1 400B pneumatic
The mixer opening as a factor influencing the discharge amount
In this test, we investigated the impact of the size of the mixer opening on the discharge quantity. For this, we used static mixers with a stair tip and trimmed them according to the corresponding number of steps.
Depending on the level, different opening diameters can thus be achieved.
The result can vary depending on the adhesive and its properties. However, due to a lower resistance to the adhesive with a larger mixer opening, a similar behavior can be expected.
Material: 2K MMA, LORD 403 E17
Cartridge: 490 ml, Sulzer Mixpac F-System
Cartridge press: Compressed air, COX™ VBA 400B, 2.7 kN pressure force
Conclusion: Beyond a certain mixer opening, which can vary depending on the adhesive, no further increase in the discharge amount is observed. The differences from 4.06 mm to 5.98 mm can indeed fall within the tolerance of the time measurement (here only 5 seconds) and can be determined more accurately over a longer period.
The number of mixing elements as a factor influencing the discharge amount
In this test, we investigated the impact of the number of mixing elements on the output quantity. For this, we used the Sulzer Mixpac static mixer C-System with a diameter of 13 mm in three lengths with 18, 24, and 32 mixing elements, and shortened them accordingly. We started with 10 elements and ended the experiment with 32 elements.
The fewer mixing elements present in the static mixer, the shorter the distance the adhesive has to travel. Additionally, the resistance to the adhesive is lower due to fewer obstacles. This leads to more adhesive being applied in a shorter time. The result will vary depending on the adhesive and its properties.
However, due to the two examined influencing factors, length and number of mixing elements, a similar behavior can be expected for each adhesive.
Material: Teroson 2K MS 9399
Cartridge: 400ml double cartridge MV 1:1
Cartridge press: VBA400A Alu Frame
Conclusion: The more elements, the stronger the cartridge press must be to ensure adequate productivity.
That's why there are so many performance levels in the almanac, ranging from 0.7 kN to 8.3 kN.

Important: Use the mixer recommended by the adhesive manufacturer for their adhesive. The test is only intended to show the influence of the number of mixing elements on the discharge amount.
